Jack has spent 40 years searching for his former army comrade, Martin. In 2018, he learns Martin died of AIDS-related complications in the early 90s and was buried under an alias on Hart Island, New York City's public cemetery. He soon meets Melinda, an artist fighting to open the island and restore dignity to the people buried there. Together, they push against bureacracy as Jack tries to bring Martin home to Buffalo.
